Milk Cosmetics Mascara

Last Friday Milk Cosmetics launched their new mascara and it has been a buzz worthy topic ever since. Everything from the release date (4/20) to the product name “Kush Mascara” has been making waves. Underneath all the hype, what is this product really about? Well, I was lucky enough to receive a complimentary tube of mascara and here are my thoughts.

Milk Cosmetics:

Milk Makeup is a US brand makeup company that is vegan and cruelty free. This company wants to use natural ingredients to allow makeup to be fresh and clean. What we put on our skin is important because it is absorbed and Milk Makeup wants to use high-quality products that won’t cause harm. They are known for their phenomenal highlighter sticks, which I absolutely love.

Kush Mascara

Yes, you read that correctly. One of the active ingredients in this new mascara is canabis oil. It should be noted though that when infused in makeup, you won’t be having the side effects that you would if you enjoy other forms of canabis oil (lol). This oil, is actually very nourishing and when used in mascara it helps achieve the creamy texture in lieu of harmful ingredients.

Packaging:

The company spared no expenses when it came to the sleek design of this product. The tubing is almost like a brushed nickel bottle. It feels a little heavy and rich all at once.

Application:

The product comes with a thick brush, to help lift lashes and have the mascara adhere to every last one. I found the brush to be a little to thick and more prickly than what I’m used to, but it really did hit every lash. Upon application, you can really tell that you’ve applied some mascara to your lashes. The bold black color really allows lashes to standout. However, I can’t say my lashes looked any fuller than normal. In fact, I still preferred lining my lashes with Roller Lash than applying this mascara over it.

Kush Mascara did last all day, without flaking. The mascara never felt heavy or itchy, and no it doesn’t smell weird either.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, this is a decent mascara. If you’re more interested in clean, paraben-free ingredients then this would be a great option. However, if you prefer volume and length than there are other products that may not be as chemical-free out there that you would prefer. I enjoyed using this since I knew it was good for my skin, so I will make the purchase in the future.

Have you tried this new mascara? What are your thoughts??

Magnetic Eyelashes

Lashes are everything in my world. Like I’ve told you before, I will not leave the house without mascara and carry a tube with me always. So, by now I’m sure you’ve heard of magnetic lashes and if you haven’t, stick with me a little longer.

Magnetic lashes are false eyelashes that use the smallest magnets instead of eyelash glue. Since they use magnets you’re able to reuse them over time if taken care of properly. I’ve been reading on these beauties for quite a while and finally clicked purchase because I just had to know if they were with it.

One Two Cosmetics

I purchased my lashes from One Two Cosmetics. After winning the Allure’s Innovative Product in 2016 and being featured in several magazines and websites I decided to purchase them. This brand uses synthetics locally manufactured in California and the lashes underwent testing from Princeton’s Consumer Research to ensure safety of use.

Lashes

I ordered the full coverage original lash. It’s described as elegant and understated on the website, to give the appearance of longer and fuller lashes. The packaging itself is gorgeous.

Once I opened the box, I was mot disappointed. They look beautiful and I couldn’t wait to put them on. They were so long and had a full look (kind of like my lashes after I put on 162 layers of mascara).

Application:

Maybe it was he excitement, but it did take me a few attempts to correctly apply these beauties. The directions were simple and easy to follow for both methods of application. (You can choose: apply them by hand or use the applicator tool).

When applying by hand, I just had to figure out my hand placement to ensure the lashes were in the correct place. Once I figured out where/how to focus on the outer corner things were SO easy. After a few practices, I can now apply them in seconds.

I personally didn’t enjoy using the applicator. You magnetize the lashes onto the applicator then place them on your eyes. It reminded me of using a lash curler in a sense. I just had better luck by hand.

Wearing My Lashes

After the first 5 minutes, I forgot I even had them on. They felt so light on your lashes. This is a huge perk because I find most fake lashes annoying and the glue bothers my skin.

The length was out of this world. If you love longer lashes, you will not be disappointed.

Removal:

Seriously, the easiest thing you’ll ever do. You simply pinch the outer corner with your thumb and index finger, give it a sliding motion (almost like you’re going to snap) and off they come. THATS IT. The site recommends cleaning with their product and storing away safely before the next use.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I’m hooked. These lashes are so easy, reusable, and won’t cause damage to your natural lashes or skin. The actual lashes I purchased are great for an everyday look, but if going to a special event I would purchased the bolder lashes so they stand out more. (Which I plan on doing). I would also recommend purchasing the cleaner. I initially didn’t (because I’m stubborn) but I’m now waiting on delivery because I want to take care of these the best way possible. It was crazy how much makeup gets on them while wearing them.

If you’re interested in finding out more, click here. They have several lash styles to choose from. The site often runs promotions where you can receive a discount. I uses a 20% off code and at checkout was offered special pricing if purchasing more than one pair. I didn’t use that offer and actually regret it now.

Have you tried them yet?!? I’d love to hear your thoughts/results. I’m officially hooked and can’t wait to order more.

Spring Style

It FINALLY feels like Spring here in Missouri, can I seriously get an amen?!? I have been waiting weeks to start wearing springtime clothing because it’s one of my favorite seasons. Still cool enough to layer, but brighter colors and lighter fabrics.

I have a slight obsession with Von Maur, mainly because it’s minutes from my house. Another reason being that every time I go there I manage to snag a cute outfit or statement piece. Today is no different, both pieces came from there.

Angies Striped Top

This striped and floral top is from the brand, Angie. It’s a breathable material with a cute wrap style in the front. A small clasp holds the two together in the front to create the deep v. The shirt is flowy and loose with slightly belled sleeves. I’m obsessed with how the floral pattern from the top repeats on the wrists. Such a comfy and cute shirt that can be dressed up with slacks or pieces beautifully with denim for a great daytime or evening look. It’s on sale right now for $23, such a steal. Click here for more details.

Vervet Distressed Denim

Distressed denim is all the rage and I personally love it. This pair of jeans feels like butter on my skin. Stiff jeans are my least favorite thing, and these jeans bend and move with me. They feel so soft and you’re able to move around comfortably. These jeans are under $60, which is a bargain for comfy jeans. Click here for more details.

Color Street Nail Polish

Let’s be honest, as a working mom of 2 little ones I really don’t have the time to go to the nail salon every week.  Mix that with the fact that even though I LOVE shellac nail polish, they absolutely ruin my nails. So, I am always on the hunt to find nail polish I can use at home that can give me salon wearability and shine.  Today I am talking all about the brand, Color Street.

Color Street: Color Street was founded by a man named, Fa Park. He set out on a mission to find a way to make painting nails easier for women ((and men)).  After years of designing and trying different adhesive papers, Color Street hit the market in Fall 2017.

What Is It?: Similar to Jamberry, this product is actually an adhesive that goes directly onto your nail.  The biggest difference between Color Street and similar products out there, is they actually use REAL NAIL POLISH for their products.  So, when you open up a package of nail strips, they are 90% dry and will set once on your nails. When I say “set” I pretty much mean they will instantly dry. because you can go about your day as soon as you are finished.

What You Get: When you order from Color Street, you have a variety of basic colors, glitters, or designs to choose from.  Once the polish arrives at your doorstep and you open it up, you receive everything you need.  In each color package you receive 2 strips of various nail sizes to choose from, a miniature nail file, and an alcohol wipe. Each package of nail color is vacuum sealed so the product can stay fresh, literally when you cut it open you can smell nail polish.

How It Works:

  • I recommend filing and buffing your nails before you begin to apply the product, so the adhesive can bind to your nail with a stronger hold.
  • Next, you will use the provided alcohol wipe and cleanse each nail.
  • Open the nail color strips.  Choose the correct nail strip, size-wise, for each nail.  It was recommended to me that you size down, because the strips can stretch a little to fit.
  •  Once you have the desired size chosen, peel off the clear plastic on top, As well as the silver tab and the backing on the backside of the nail polish.
  • Holding the strip in the middle, apply to desired nail.  Smoothing out from the bottom to the top.
  • Tear the excess off, but hold onto the remaining pieces. You can use this on your same nail on the opposite hand.
  • Once the excess is torn off, cut it down a bit so you have just a little hanging over to tuck under the nail.  Tuck the polish under your nail, then file your nail.
  • Repeat for remaining nails.
  • That’s it!

After wearing these color strips for a while here are my thoughts on them.

Pros:

  • TIME SAVER!!! It literally took me 10 minutes for the whole process and my nails looked amazing.  I received so many compliments as well.  The shine lasts and looks like a salon painted your nails.
  • I also love that they use real nail polish, so the adhesive doesn’t feel “heavy” on my nails.
  • Love the various strip sizes included because you can give yourself a manicure and pedicure using just one single package.
  • It is also convenient that they come with everything you need already in the packaging.
  • Color Street is constantly running sales for buy 3 get one, so each package runs from $11-$14 which is reasonable for a manicure. SO easy to remove- just grab some nail polish remover and you are finished.  (Although the glitter polish did take a little more effort to remove).

Cons:

  • Although they use real nail polish, it is not 7-free meaning there are harmful chemicals used in the actual nail polish.
  • I will be the first to admit that I am tough on my hands, but this did not last 2 weeks.  Mine needed to be taken off after 9 days because of the wear and tear.
  • Once the packages are opened, you cannot use them again later.  I stored mine in a ziplock bag inside an air-tight container and didn’t have any luck.  Meaning I used to different packages so I could have accent nails. That means my 9 day manicure actually cost me $23.
  • There is a learning curve when it comes to applying the adhesives.  After 3 rounds I am better at it, but still not great.
  • Popular shades sellout quickly, so order fast if you like one.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Final Thoughts: All in all, I am so glad I tried this product. It is an easy way to get your nails done at-home.  If you’re in the market for a new polish to try, give it a whirl.  I personally will only use it for special occasions since it can cost a bit more if I choose to use accent nail designs.  Another reason is I prefer to use nail polishes free of chemicals since we have children in the house.

The BEST Foot Peel

Spring is here!! Which also means its time to pack away the boots and bring out the open-toed shoes.  Thats right, it’s time to let those feet be free!!  If you’re anything like me though, your winter time pedicure routine doesn’t happen as often as you’d like.  Knowing my feet will be wrapped up for months, makes me push my toes to the back burner.  So, knowing my feet have been neglected for months I went on a mission to find a product to get my feet feeling silky smooth and ready for sandals asap.

I stumbled across Grace & Stella’s Dr. Pedicure and let me tell you that this product is an absolute game-changer! The box doesn’t lie when it says, “Use this and you’ll be showing off your feet in no time.”

What is it? This is a foot peel that will actually eliminate dead skin from your feet over the course of a few days. The peel comes in a variety of scents, but each one provides the same results.  The foot peel consists of two plastic booties that you will secure on your feet using tape.  Once finished, your skin are silky smooth and ready to hit the beach.  Disclaimer: If pregnant or nursing they suggest not using this product without consulting your doctor first.

How it works? Now, this part seemed a little strange but I went with it.  You will want to soak your feet for about 10 minutes (or take a really long shower) so your feet are soft.  Dry your feet.  Then, you will open up the package placing one bootie on each foot.  Once the booties are on, secure them with the tape provided in the package.  They also suggest placing socks over the booties to help secure them in place (I followed this recommendation and recommend you do too).  Now, you just sit back and relax for an hour while the peel works its magic. After an hour, remove the booties and throw them away.  Finally, wash your feet again with soap and water.  Thats it!

Peeling: After a few days, some say as early as 3 but mine didn’t start until day 5, your feet will literally start to peel.  I mean like snake shedding new skin type peeling.  Don’t be alarmed, that just means the product worked!  Over the next several days your feet will continue to shed all the dead skin.  It actually grossed me out a tad, so I was sure to wear socks so I didn’t have flaky skin falling everywhere. It is super important you do not pick at the skin, but naturally let it fall off.  After about 7-10 days your feet will finish peeling.

Results: My skin has NEVER felt this smooth.  Thanks to this peel my feet are silky and ready for manicured toes and barefoot days. I am so thankful I tried this peel and will keep one handy for the future.  Such an awesome product that required little work for fresh feet.

If you are interested in trying this foot peel out for yourself click here.  (Also available on Amazon). Its probably the best $12.95 you will spend this spring.  If you try it, don’t be grossed out.  This literally is like an at-home spa day without that massive spa bill.  If you’ve tried it or end up trying it, let me know what you think!!!

Money Saving Makeup- Drugstore Finds

Although Sephora will forever own my soul, I have set out on a mission to find makeup also available at a reasonable price. Not everyone wants to spend $30 on foundation, and to be fair I don’t always want to either. However, I also want makeup that lasts all day and won’t cause any breakouts on my skin. So, this past month I tried several drugstore brands. Some were absolute misses and they went straight into the trash after a day, but some were absolutely amazing. Today I am talking about the products that worked for me. Who doesn’t like to save a little money?

L’Oreal Infallibile Glow Pro Foundation

393F89E7-4B3C-4E2C-BBC1-9E3F5DE4088F

This foundation is available in many shades so it can complement any skin tone.  Not only that, but it feels so light on your skin.  Sometimes drugstore foundations can cause my skin to feel clogged or heavy, but with this foundation I barely remembered it was on.  Another plus is the longevity of the product, it stayed in place all day long and I looked just as fresh at the end of the day as I did in the morning.  My favorite part about this foundation is the subtle glow it provides on my skin.  It almost reminded me of a built-in highlighter.  As the light hits the face, it provides a dewy glow all day long.  Such a steal for only $13.

L’Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation

E0BE0E85-522F-47B9-B5F8-BD2078501B7A.jpeg

Seems a little crazy that I loved both the matte and the glow, but I loved them for different reasons.  I choice the matte foundation on days where I wanted to apply custom highlight and a fuller face.  Just like the glow pro, this foundation provides medium coverage with a long lasting ability.  It will truly come down to your makeup preference and if you prefer a subtle glow or a more light/textured finish.

L’Oreal Eyeliner

FB9A91D4-DDC1-40D3-8E32-2A45A434614C.jpeg

I love everything about this wooden eyeliner pencil.  It literally glides right onto your skin.  Plus, it is easy to sharpen which is always a nice thing.  I also love that it lasts all day long and you will have this pencil for months before needing a new one.  (Although, its recommended you swap out eyeliner every three months).

Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid

2F85F5B1-B2D2-4185-9451-349EB63C1CF0

I. Love. Matte. Lipgloss.  More importantly, I love THIS matte lip gloss.  It is available for only $8, which is half the cost of my favorite brand from Sephora.  Vivid Matte comes in a variety of shades and feels like butter on your lips.  This is now in my purse every single day- LOVE it.

Essie Treat & Love

92199D4E-CFDD-43CA-AC30-D248F262FDBF.jpeg

Nail polish can be tricky, no matter the brand. When doing my nails at home I prefer to use companies that have limited chemicals and are part of the 5 free campaign.  Essie certainly fits the bill for this. Their Treat Love & Color line provides everything Essie already stands behind PLUS the added bonus of strengthening your nails while wearing the polish. It is available in a variety of shades, but I am loving the soft pink shade “Soul Happy”.  Check out this polish for only $10, which is a lot cheaper than your bi-weekly gel polish at the salon.

Mixed Chicks Spring Bands

E2CDC6AE-0900-48F6-BB04-300FC4EFF534

These cute little spring hair ties look like something you would hold your car keys on.  I was skeptical at first, but gave them a whirl.  This product does exactly what is states- hold your hair in place without the kink from a typical hair tie.  So, you can easily transition your hair from up to down without any creases in your hair.  I just chose this brand, but several are available at your local drugstore ranging from $3-$5.

Tarte Cosmetics

If I am being completely honest, I really didn’t care about what makeup and skincare products I used on my face until my last year or two of college.  You see, I didn’t realize that makeup completely change the appearance of your skin when you use brands other than those readily available at the drugstore.  Then one day, I walked into Sephora and it has owned a piece of my soul ever since.

One of my very first purchases at Sephora was from a brand called, Tarte.  I purchased a tinted moisturizer that literally made my face glow, in all the right ways.  This product felt like butter on my face and I could’t believe how different my skin looked.  Since that day I have stayed loyal to the brand and purchased SO many products over the years.

In addition to providing a high-quality makeup finish, this brand stands behind their products and believes that the ingredients that we use in our makeup should be just as good as the products we consume.  This company prides itself on its ability to use naturally occurring ingredients that are hypoallergenic and vegan-friendly.  Say what?!?! Yes, you read that correctly.  Tarte uses ingredients that are good for your skin- meaning no paragons or additional additives.  Your skin is the largest organ and is reported to absorb up to 70% of ingredients it is exposed to.  (Mind you this is not a one size fits all statement, because some things are absorbed instantly into the bloodstream.)  Moral of this cute little story is: WHAT YOU PUT ON YOUR SKIN MATTERS.

When shopping for makeup, I am constantly looking for products that work.  More importantly, I am looking for products that won’t have a negative impact on my skin.  This brand fits the bill.  The products are AMAZING and I don’t feel guilty about what I am using because they are actually good for me.  Below I have  described a few of my favorites, I think they will quickly become your favorites as well!

Amazonian Clay Bronzer

Literally a MUST-HAVE in my opinion.  This bronzer is everything.  I even have a travel-size one in my purse, just in case I need touchups during the day.  The park avenue princess shade is one that will compliment almost every skin tone.  Another perk is this bronzer is actually waterproof!

Tarteist PRO Glow To-Go Highlighter

Contouring made easy.  Contouring has been everywhere for quite a while and this palette will help you master the hottest trend.  With two shades of highlighter and the perfect broke palette, become a pro with contouring.

Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint

This matte lip paint is my absolute favorite.  I received a sample size from Sephora for my birthday last year, then I had to have a larger version.  You can wear it for hours, but you don’t remember you actually have it on because it feels so light on your lips. I am obsessed with the birthday suit shade.

Rainforest of the Sea Highlighting Eye Palette Vol III

Eyeshadow is my weakness. I quite possibly own 10 at any given moment. This palette comes in neutral shades that provide light-reflecting colors.  To be honest, ALL of Tarte’s eyeshadow palettes are amazing.  They are vegan and come in a variety of shades.  From my personal experience, they last all day.

Goal Getters Contour Brush Set

My Aunt gave me these beauties for Christmas, and I looove them.  To be honest, I love that they glitter so that in itself would have made me love them. Then I used them and realized they are perfect to use when contouring or applying different types of makeup on your face. Each brush has the perfect angle for its purpose and the bristles are vegan as well.

If you’re looking to invest in some quality makeup, check this brand out.  Tarte also provides DIY tutorials on their website to assist you in using your products.  Additionally, they have a YouTube Channel to support your makeup experience as well.  All in all, Tarte cares about their customers, their brand, and the world.  What’s not to love?
