Summer Accessories: Straw Handbag Edition

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always been obsessed with a good purse.  No lie, for my senior pictures I actually had a picture with all my purses.  As I’ve gotten older, I definitely have not outgrown this love but I have learned its all about balance.  I will invest in one quality purse each year and purchase seasonally appropriate bags at a much more reasonable price point.

This summer, straw handbags are making a strong comeback.  I remember these were in style when I was in middle school, crazy how things always come back around. However, this year they are adding more details than ever.  You can purchase handbags with tassels, colors, pom-poms, flowers, and the list goes on and on.  Today, I am highlighting a few of my favorites in many different price ranges.  Essentially there is a handbag everyone will enjoy.

Mar Y Sol Zoe Crossbody

This bag is absolutely stunning and probably my favorite of all. The colors are perfect for summer and the tassels add a little extra pizazz on the side.  With a 19.75 strap length, it will work on most body types as a cross-body or over the shoulder bag. I love that it offers a zip closure and a cloth-lined interior with a pocket as well.  An added bonus is this brand is handmade and fair-trade, feel good about something you are purchasing. If you love it as much as I do, click here.

Mar Y Sol Ibiza Tassel Tote

Another great bag from Mar Y Sol, but this time available as a tote.  Everyone know that summer-time calls for sunscreen, swimming, and carrying a few extra supplies in your everyday bag.  This tote is spacious and gorgeous.  It’s available in 3 different colors and they are all amazing.  A double strap tote, with one inside lined pocket.  Take a look by clicking here.

A New-Day Straw Circle Cross-Body

Circle bags are EVERYWHERE currently.  They add a fresh take on the everyday purses we have all seen over the years.  This beauty is available at Target, for only $35. The purse is equipped with a cross-body strap, as well as two drop handles if you prefer to carry your handbag.  Additionally, the bag is lined with fabric and includes a drawstring closure at the top.  If you are lovin’ it, click here.

Circle Straw Cross-Body Bag

You can pick this baby up from Urban Outfitters for $59.  Right on trend with the circular shape and button closure.  The interior of the bag is lined with a patterned fabric. The purse includes a leather strap, that drops down 21.8 inches.  If this is the one you love, click here.

Stella and Dot Awning Clutch

If a clutch is more your style, Stella & Dot has an impressive collection. I personally love this black and cream woven clutch.  It includes a magnetic closure and fringe along the trim of the flap. The interior includes one pocket and is also lined.  If you love it, this baby is $69 and available here.

Gottex Aruba Clutch/Cross-Body

I actually bit the bullet and purchased this one.  The woven bag stood out a little more to me since it includes pops of color throughout the bag.  It also includes colorful poms on the flap of the purse.  It is fully lined on the inside, with one pocket, and also includes a magnetic closure.  I chose this one because it can be used as a clutch or a cross-body bag. This is available from amazon for $45 by clicking here.

Small Zipper Clutch/Cross-Body

This bag is also available from Amazon for $19.  I love that it is so simple and stylish.  Detailed with a leather detachable wristlet strap, as well as a gold chain cross-body strap this bag can be used in a variety of ways.  It includes a zip-closure and fully lined interior with a small pocket.  It can be used as a clutch, wristlet, or cross-body. This small bag does it all for a bargain price.  Click here to see more.

Have you made a summer handbag purchase? What style spoke to you? Can’t wait to see what you pick out.

Save On Baby Items: Target Car Seat Trade-In

We all know and love Target, and this week they are giving you a reason to love them even more! (As if that were really possible, right?).

This week Target is hosting their car-seat trade-in event. Bring in an old car-seat or stroller and receive a 20% off coupon to be used to purchase a newer model.  This is great news for moms like me because my second is ready to get out of his infant carrier. Target will be accepting car seats until May 5th.  Combine that with your RedCard for an additional 5% off and you’re saving a ton. **Trade-in voucher can be used at a later date, but will have an expiration date on it.**

In addition to the car seat trade-in event, Target is also rewarding you for purchasing baby items this week.  When you spend a total of $75 on anything from wipes/diapers to baby food and formula, you will receive a $15 target gift card to be used on your next purchase.  Another STEAL.

I am a little crazy, my husband will back me up on this, when it comes to using these cards for more items we actually NEED.  My plan is to trade-in the car seat, load up on diapers and formula and head to the check out lane.  I will first purchase my $75 of baby items to receive my card.  For my second transaction I will purchase the car seat, using my 20% off voucher and then my $15 gift card.  Literally, this saves you quite a bit of money and can take a car seat that was regularly $150 down to about $105 (that’s without the 5% RedCard savings, but I figure thats really covering tax).  Sounds amazing to me!

Do you plan on taking advantage of this major sale? What items are you looking for?

Build-A-Bear ((& Bakeshop))

By now you have heard of Build-A-Bear, a company that literally lets you make a bear in store.  What started as making simple bears has evolved into making bears, your favorite cartoon animals and even dressing them up for various occasions.  When you walk into the store you can feel the excitement and it is bound to help you make memories you will never forget. Luckily for us, we live in St. Louis where there is now a Build-A-Bear Bakeshop at West County Shopping Center ((mouth-watering delicious)).

Yesterday, we took my oldest to Build-A-Bear to make a bear for her birthday next week.  Her eyes lit up the second we walked in and she was struggling to make the most difficult decision of her day- which bear. With over 20+ bears to choose from, including her favorite princess of the moment ((Poppy)), we had to help out a little.  So, thinking quickly, we walked her to the wardrobe section and asked her to pick out her favorite outfit. At first she said, Rapunzel, which took us all by surprise because she actually doesn’t love that princess as much as others.  Then, she saw the Elsa/Anna costumes for the bears and the decision was made.  Once she had her bear, she ran over and chose the shimmery Disney Princess Bear ((yay because this is the one I liked best too)).

Once you have chosen your bear, its time to fill it with stuffing.  My daughter absolutely loved standing on the pedal to make the machine swirl, while the helpful employee filled her bear.  Make a wish and kiss a little heart to place inside the bear, then she’s all complete.  They have various sounds you can also place inside, but we chose not to because if slept with the bear she would play with it all night long.  However, the sounds available are absolutely adorable.

Off to the washing and wardrobe station we went.  She brushed that cute little bear and got her all dressed.  There was a line, so we didn’t make a certificate, but you can print one to commemorate the special occasion.

After Build-A-Bear, we walked by about 10 stores to arrive at our next destination: Build-A-Bear Bakeshop.  Everything about this place is absolutely ADORABLE.  From the bright colors to the custom sprinkles on the storefront windows, the shop is designed with perfection in mind.  When you arrive you can choose from a variety of pre-made bakery items OR you can choose to decorate two of your own cupcakes.  The cupcakes are baked at a local bakeshop, Sarah’s Bakery and brought over to the store.  The designs on the remade cupcakes were gorgeous, but I really wanted to make our own. I couldn’t decide so we did both. Ooooops.

For $10 you receive two cupcakes (standard sized), 1 jug of milk, 2 types of frosting (you can pick the colors), and endless sprinkles.  The icing comes in miniature pre-filled piping bags with the right amount for each cupcake. You can customize everything about your creation because you get to choose your flavors, icing colors, sprinkles, and drink choice.  They had the cutest glass jugs of milk from Shatto Milk Company with flavors ranging from strawberry to root beer.

We chose the confetti cupcakes to decorate and delicious strawberry milk.  We were walked over to a table to begin our creations.  The whole family had a blast trying to decorate the cupcakes, my daughter was smiling from ear to ear.  Although, I think her favorite part had to be holding the sprinkles and shaking them all over the place.  Once the cupcakes were decorated, we enjoyed the delicious treat together.

All in all, this was a wonderful morning out with my two little one and my mom.  We had a blast with a hands-on morning full of creativity.  If you are looking for an indoor activity, or just something fun to do with your little ones look no further.  Yes, the cost is more than just purchasing a regular bear and cupcakes BUT the memories you make are irreplaceable.  If you’re in the St. Louis area, take advantage of the bakeshop because we are the only market to currently have one.

Have you been?? What are your thoughts??

Korean Beef Bowls

Ughhh. It was dinner time again and the standard question appeared, “What’s for dinner?”. Seriously, the most dreaded 3 words any wife wants to hear at the end of the day. Despite my best efforts, meal prep didn’t go as planned this week. Luckily, I had plenty of standby meats ready in the refrigerator. I knew hamburger meat was going to be the fastest thing to make, but I wasn’t feeling the standard tacos or hamburgers.

So to google I went and I landed on Korean Beef Bowls. Then, I hit another obstacle because I didn’t have half the ingredients required.  However, the picture looked amazing and I officially only wanted to eat Korean Beef for dinner so I went and modified the recipe using things I actually had handy.

Now, I may be biased but this turned out to be absolutely AMAZING. You know its a hit in this house when leftovers aren’t an option.  For this dish, I was lucky to even get a small serving of seconds.  The sweet and spicy flavor was spot on and we now have a new recipe to add to our meal rotation.  I attached the recipe I modified/made for you, in case you want to give it a whirl.  TRUST ME, you want to give this a whirl.

  • 1 cup rice (we used brown long grain)
  • 1 lb hamburger meat
  • 1 cup spinach (fresh)
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped or shredded carrots
  • 2 hard boiled eggs (optional)

Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup reduced sodium soy sauce (you can use regular or possibly liquid aminos)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2 tsp minced garlic (more if you like garlic)
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce (I used Franks)

  1. Prepare rice as directed on box.
  2. Brown hamburger. While hamburger is cooking, prep the sauce.
  3. Cut carrots and wash spinach.  Place carrots in skillet with 1 Tbsp olive oil to sauté.
  4. Once hamburger is 80% of the way cooked, drain.  Then, pour the sauce over the hamburger.
  5. Sautee spinach for 20-30 seconds, just enough to make the leaves warm and a darker green color.
  6. Place 1/2 cup rice in bowl. Top with beef, vegetable, and egg.  Sprinkle additional red pepper flakes on top.  Enjoy!

Yes, it really is THAT easy. Fast, delicious, and homemade. All the key components of a winning weeknight dinner in my opinion. I am sure you could use other vegetables like zucchini or broccoli in place of spinach or in addition too.  This beef would also be perfect for lettuce wraps/cups.

Let me know if you try it!
